Out of Bounds Comedy Improv Festival in Austin, TX

We’re heading to the land of steers and queers to pimp our funny to the hippest town in the Lone Star State. The 2005 Out of Bounds Improv Festival and Miniature Golf Tournament in Austin, Texas takes place September 7-10, and we’re onstage Saturday night at 8pm. A terrible timeslot for TV, but a GREAT timeslot for a comedy festival. We are super psyched to go, and we’re warming up our wrists for the miniature golf tournament.

If you’re in Austin that weekend, then you HAVE to see us. You may never have an opportunity to see Gunshow perform ever again, and it’s the ONLY time to catch that show. It’s improv!

Eval Cathedral hosts a free night of comedy every Wednesday night at Parkside Lounge on Houston Street, and we’ve been invited to perform September 7th! Take this opportunity after your job lets you off the leash to swing by this show for free. Sometimes we make ourselves do fun things, you know? If you want to go home and watch that Netflix DVD in order to get the value, you’ll still have time AFTER the show, because it will be done before 9pm. How’s THAT for a deal? Huh? Gunshow hearts Providence

Let me be the first Gunshovian to say thankyouthankyouthankyou to the people of the Providence Improv Festival, who made us feel very welcome, planned things perfectly, and had nothing but praise for our shows. You are lovely Providentials. We had such a blast performing and the audiences were very appreciative. On the ride home, we all wished it had been twice as long.

PIF

Usually, I don’t get excited about an upcoming performance until 10 minutes before I go on stage, but today is different. In a couple of hours, we’ll be in a van on our way to the Providence Improv Festival and I’m bopping up and down in my chair. This is Gunshow’s first road trip and my first time going to a festival with my group since I moved to New York. We’re all looking forward to mingling with our fellow improv nerds, doing workshops, and sharing a bill with groups from New York and San Francisco. And, of course, long, filthy conversations in the van inspired by rounds of “Who would you do? ____ or ____?” Avaunt!

The PIF is up and we look adorable.

Only 2 weeks after their target date The Providence Improv Festival has finally updated their site and it’s quite nice. Especially since the group pic of Gunshow in the subway is like the 3rd or 4th image down on the left hand side. I also love our listing on the groups page. I was reading the blurb about us and was like “Man, these guys must have loved the DVD we sent them. This write up is GLOWING!” Then I remembered that it was just the press release we sent them. Man, did we write a sweet (and accurate) blurb for us. I only wish we’d had a little logo thing to send so we didn’t have a generic square PIF2 logo on the group page. But such is my gift. To see things after it’s too late to do anything about them and then complain to people who become irritated.

I think this is going to be an important trip for Gunshow. There are only THREE possible outcomes:

1) It will forge the group as a whole, making us stonger together and ensure that we kick ass on stage and receive the deserved love of mass throngs of onlookers.

2) It will make us realize that after being forced to deal with each other upclose and personal, all Real World Style for 48-72 hours, we really hate each other’s quirks and end in bloodshed on the stage. I will be victorious and wear the ears of my fallen teammates as trophies.

3) Be kind of fun and okay but, you know, not a big deal. One of us will probably buy a souvenir t-shirt. You know, that kind of thing.

I am thinking it will be a blend of the 3… Definitely wouldn’t say no to a souvenir-shirt covered in the blood of my teammates while receiving the deserved love of mass throngs of onlookers…

We’re also performing with a UCB team know as Mailer Daemon one of the nights as a Best of NYC type show. Should be fun! Especially since we know several people on the team. So I suggest that you stop reading this now and start making car reservations to see Gunshow at the PIF! What else could you possibly have to do? Seriously.
